The modified CAP program was established at Mt Hood Community College in 1989 and a full CAP program was established in 1994. The college offers over 20,000 square feet of automotive facility and is considered the best facility in the state. MHCC is one of only a few community colleges that provide scholarships for over 50% of the automotive students.
Mt Hood Community College is located in historic Gresham, Oregon right near the end of the Oregon Trail. Historic Gresham is an attractive tree-lined city of 90,000 east of and bordering Portland in the Willamette Valley community, with a total population of more than 1,000,000. Points of interest include the Portland International Raceway and Woodburn Drag strip. Freightliner, a subsidiary of Daimler is also located here. Gresham has a growing number of businesses in the service and technology fields. Among its highlights are the “Rockin Round the Block” street cruise with over 600 hot rods in attendance and the event raises over $10,000 a year for automotive scholarships. The Metro Portland New Car Dealers Association also provides nearly $10,000 a year for automotive scholarships.
