Fitness

Climbing is an excellent way to improve balance, body awareness, cardiovascular capacity, flexibility, muscular endurance and strength.

Skill Development and Teaching Styles

Routes are constructed in a manner that presents a challenge to both the beginning and experienced climber. Class curriculum varies from basic skill development and body awareness to advanced climbing techniques and environmental adaptations.

Challenge
Assessing risks and exploring comfort zones allow the potential for reaching new heights and experiencing greater adventures. As such, rock climbing has become more popular over the years, because it provides a medium for people who are looking to challenge themselves.
Team Building
Improved trust, teamwork and communication are just a few examples of the benefits of rock climbing. Individuals may also develop such skills as leadership, decision-making and cooperation.

Instruction
College Classes

Classes are offered both day and evening each quarter for the beginner and intermediate climber.

Beginning instruction focuses on the basics of body positioning, belaying, knot tying, rope handling and safety precautions.

Intermediate classes prepare climbers to transition to the outdoors. Students learn to assess environmental conditions, how to adapt indoor skills to outdoor application and set anchors for safe support.

Some classes offer trips to natural climbs such as Smith Rock. These outings allow students to test the skills and knowledge acquired in class sessions, and prepares the individual for continued climbing.
