electricians working

Crater Lake Electrical

MHCC partners with the Crater Lake Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) to offer an electrician apprenticeship.  Through this apprenticeship, you can earn a general journey-level electrician license. This allows you to work as an inside electrician. Inside electricians can complete electrical installations. They can also work in construction, maintenance, repair, and service. They can work on lots of different electrical construction projects. Example projects range from homes to entire industrial plants. They install conduits and wire lighting, switches, converters, and computer systems. It’s exciting work that can range from working outdoors in the elements to working in clean rooms at hospitals and manufacturing plants.

Journey-level apprenticeship requirements

The apprenticeship is a four to five-year program. Apprentices must complete a minimum of 144 to 180 hours per year of related classroom training and at least 8,000 hours of hands-on training. Journey-level electricians must have a state license. Upon completion of the program, apprentices take the licensing exam through the Oregon Building Codes Division. Applicants must:

  • Be at least 17 years old (they must be 18 to begin the program.)
  • Provide proof of high school graduation or a GED® certificate.
  • Complete at least one year of high school or post-high school algebra with at least a C grade.

Apprenticeship committees may require additional qualifications.
