The Saints will play Everett Community College for the NWAACC Softball Championship Monday, May 23, 11a.m., at Delta Park, near Portland International Airport. (NWAACC is the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.)
Kim Hyatt, MHCC athletic director, called Saturday’s semi-final action “awesome” and described it as “an outstanding game between two excellent teams with the Saints scoring the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh. Kayla Anderson put on an incredible performance on the mound, keeping the Wenatchee Valley batters off-balance to pick up the 1-0 win.”
In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Chantel McLaughlin singled to get the Saints going and moved to third on a great hit by MacKenzie Samuelson down the right field line. Samuelson was thrown out at second but her hit kept the Saints alive and put McLaughlin in scoring position. Next up was Ashley Devincenzi, who hit a fast moving grounder to second that was tough for the Wenatchee Valley second-baseman to control. Devincenzi beat the throw to avoid the out and to score McLaughlin for the win!
Hyatt said, “If you can get away to support these outstanding young ladies in the championship game, I know they would love to have you there as they battle for their third straight championship. If you are unable to get away, please wish them luck and keep them in your thoughts. They have done a fantastic job of representing our College and are truly a classy group of ladies!”
