Adult Basic Skills


The Adult Basic Skills Department at Mt. Hood Community College houses the Adult Basic Education/General Educational Development (ABE/GED) program, the non-credit English as a Second Language (ESL) Program and the for credit English as a Non-Native Language (ENL).

The Adult Basic Skills Department seeks to:

  • Provide students a variety of learning experiences to help students achieve their highest potential;
  • Utilize a comprehensive instructional delivery system that addresses all aspects of assessment, placement and instruction
  • Provide a supportive learning environment for all students;
  • Recognize the uniqueness of individuals and their ability to contribute to the educational process in our classrooms;
  • Support students by helping them access resources and opportunities in the community where they could apply their new knowledge and achieve their goals;
  • Support staff professional development in order to model life-long learning for the students served at MHCC.

ABE/GED Program:

The mission of the ABE/GED program at Mt. Hood Community College is to provide instruction in basic skills to members of the community to equip students with the skills necessary to realize their academic, vocational and personal goals.

ESL Program:

The mission of the ESL program at Mt. Hood Community College is to provide English language instruction for non-native speakers of English to equip students with the skills necessary to realize their academic, vocational and personal goals
