Students New to MHCC
Steps to Register for NEW STUDENTS
Students registering for 5 credit hours or less should refer to the MHCC Schedule for registration information.
You are considered a NEW MHCC student if you are . . .
- a first time college student, or
- a student who completed Early Collegiate Opportunity (ECO) courses in high school, or
- a transfer student from another college or university who does not have coursework documented on official or unofficial transcripts in reading, writing, or mathematics with C or higher grades…
These are the steps for you to register:
STEP 1:Complete the College Admission Form – the form is available online, in the Testing Center, the Academic Advising and Transfer Center and the Admissions and Records Office.
Please be aware that high school courses may not be used to satisfy minimum reading, writing or mathematics proficiency levels or to satisfy the prerequisites for reading, writing and mathematics courses.
STEP 2:Take the College Placement Test*. Call (503) 491-7678 for testing information. If you have taken another college’s placement test within the past 12 months, bring the official test results to the Testing Center (AC2335). You will be expected to take MHCC’s math placement test.
*If you are disabled and need special accommodations for testing, contact Disability Services Office
(503) 491-6923 or 491-7670 (TDD).
STEP 3:Complete the New Student online Orientation. STEP 5:Register for classes. You may register by web, , or in-person (by going to the Admissions and Records Office). If you would like to use web registration you will need your MHCC ID number, which may be provided for you when you meet with an advisor, if it is available.
Registration dates and times for each term are listed on our academic calendar. Click on this link to access that information.
If You are Taking Less Six Credits:
Students enrolling for less than 6 credits may register without taking a college placement test. However, the placement test (CPT) is required for part-time students enrolling in a writing, mathematics, chemistry or reading course. Please see the placement test schedule. All other part-time students may follow steps 1, 3, and 5 above.
All part-time students are welcome to seek academic advising.
If you have completed an English Composition course AND a mathematics course, both with a grade of "C" or higher; please bring a copy of your transcript(s) to the Academic Advising and Transfer Center or fax to 503-491-7388 so the CPT requirement may be waived. Then proceed with steps 1, 4 and 5.
Check out the International Student site or for additional information contact the Admissions and Records Office, 503-491-7165.
If English is not your first language, you will take the college placement test and submit a sample of your writing. Please see the placement test schedule. For additional information cal 503-491-6912.
