Are you a single parent, displaced homemaker or a women who speaks English as a second language? Do you want to make changes in your life but don't know where to start? Would you like to have a better job but lack the education? If so, the Transitions program may be for you.

The program helps qualified individuals transition to college to gain the job skills that will lead to financial security and independence.

Transitions may be the support you need to succeed!

The Transitions program has numerous success stories—stories of individuals with the courage and determination to succeed despite the obstacles in their lives. Many Transitions students are single parents, widows or homemakers who need job skills to support themselves. Some are escaping domestic violence situations or drug addiction. Achieving what once may have seemed impossible, graduates of Transitions have made positive changes to create safe, healthy lives and gained the skills to be financially secure.

What does the program offer?

The Transitions program can provide the resources and support you'll need to make career decisions, strengthen your self-confidence and develop college success skills.

Some of these resources include:

  • THREE COLLEGE CLASSES—In these classes you will develop a career plan, make new friends and prepare for college. Classes are offered fall, winter and spring terms. Occasionally summer classes are offered as well.

  • CAREER EXPLORATION—Speakers and field trips will help you find potential career paths and job satisfaction.

  • PEER MENTORS—Graduates of this program are available to encourage and guide you in achieving your goals.

  • RESOURCES—Counseling and advising, support groups and scholarship workshops will help you succeed in school.

  • VOLUNTEER AND LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES—Build self-esteem and leadership skills by working or volunteering on campus.

  • FINANCIAL HELP—Low-income students who qualify may receive financial assistance for needs such as child care, transportation.

  • FOLLOW-UP SUPPORT—After Transitions classes, staff are available to help you stay in school and succeed.

  • HEALTH CAREERS ACCESS PROJECT — we can help you select and purse health careers.

Your career can be anything you set your mind to! Whether it's basic skills training, a two-year professional-technical degree or transferring to a four-year college, the Transitions program will help you make the choice that's right for you.
