Surgical Technology - After Graduation

Employment opportunities for surgical technologists are expected to be excellent, especially for graduates of accredited surgical technology programs. Several factors will contribute to the growing need for surgical technologists in the future. These include technological advances that allow surgical intervention for more conditions than ever, the national shortage of healthcare providers, and the projected increase in the number and age of the population.

Surgical Technologist

Surgical technologists maintain a proper sterile field during surgical procedures. This includes counting and sterilizing equipment, preparing patients for surgery, and providing technical assistance to surgeons, surgical nurses, or anesthesiologists.

Other Careers

With a degree in surgical technology, you can advance to many other career paths. This degree could set you up for success in a nursing program, physician assistant program, or medical school to become a doctor. You could also pursue a Surgical Tech First Assistant, which requires more training.
