  • Vandenboer Named Women's Head Basketball Coach

Jeremy Vandenboer has been named the new head women's coach and will replace John Hawley as women’s head coach. Vandenboer joined the coaching staff in the fall of 2016 as an assistant to Coach Hawley. He brings with him 16 years of coaching experience, including with high school basketball programs in Washington and Montana and, most recently, as an assistant coach at Corban University in Salem. At Corban, Vanderboer helped lead the men’s team to a playoff berth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Cascade Collegiate Conference during the 2015-2016 season.

He has a Bachelor of Science in physical education and a Master of Art in Teaching in educational leadership from Walla Walla University.

According to Kim Hyatt, MHCC Athletic Director and Dean of Health and Physical Education, the change benefits the coaches, the program and the student-athletes.

“I am extremely grateful to Coach Hawley for all the work and effort he has put into both basketball programs,” said Hyatt. “He has done a phenomenal job and did exactly what we had planned with our women’s program – he changed the culture and this is a stronger program, both academically and athletically, because of him. I am also excited for him having the opportunity to focus primarily on the men’s team – I believe he will continue moving this program forward.
