Celebrate Black History Month at Mt. Hood Community College

Mt. Hood Community College is proud to announce a series of events in celebration of Black History Month, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Black/African American individuals to society. 

All of these events will happen in the student union on the Gresham Campus.

Prominent Black/African American Contributions Display

  • Feb. 21 - 28, 2024
  • Go on a visual journey of current and past prominent Black/African American contributions to the US and the world. This captivating display celebrates the achievements and enduring legacy of Black excellence. 

Lecture and Q&A with Dr. A, President and CEO of the Black United Fund of Oregon

  • Feb. 21, 12 - 1 p.m.
  • Gain valuable insights and perspectives from Dr. A, esteemed leader and advocate, as he discusses the vital work of the Black United Fund of Oregon. Engage in a thought-provoking Q&A session and deepen your understanding of the organization's impactful initiatives.

Film Screening: "Selma"

  • Feb. 22, All Day
  • Immerse yourself in the powerful narrative of "Selma," a gripping film chronicling the historic civil rights marches from Selma to Montgomery led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 

Fashion Design Workshop

  • Feb. 29, 12 - 2 p.m.
  • Learn about Black and African American culture through fashion at this interactive workshop. Discover style influences, trends, and expressions that reflect the diversity and creativity of Black heritage.
