Accreditation
Mt. Hood Community College scheduled for full accreditation review in October of 2007
Every ten years colleges and universities in the Pacific Northwest are reviewed by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The review is performed by a team of peer evaluators who come from other colleges in the Northwest, generally outside of the institution’s home state. MHCC’s next full-scale review is scheduled for October 8 - 10, 2007.
Planning for this event is a two-year process which culminates in a self study report that documents the college’s programs and services, its strengths, and the areas in which it can improve. While the process is most intensive during the two years preceding the visit, self evaluation is ongoing. Ultimately, the self study benefits institutions beyond the accreditation process; through it colleges find and address weaknesses, as well as accomplishments and successes. It is the oldest and best known seal of higher education quality. It leads to improvements and sets a path for the next ten years.
Mt. Hood Community College’s accreditation status was reaffirmed by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities in 2002. The most recent Commission action relating to the College was its acceptance on January 31, 2007 of a Progress Report on Teach Out Agreements submitted in 2005.
