COURSE DESCRIPTION: (for catalog)

An exploration into the nature, uses and structure of the "AutoCAD" computer aided drafting program. Students will learn the basics of AutoCAD. Drawing, editing and display commands and functions are studied as they apply to 2-dimensional drawings. Additional commands enable the user to create blocks that can be saved on the disk, dimension drawings and add text. Previous knowledge of computers or computer programming is not required, but is strongly suggested.

PREREQUISITE:

ET 120 or ET 122, co-requisite of MTH80

LIST THE PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES OR STUDENT LEARNING COMPETENCIES AS DESCRIBED IN THE INSTRUCTIONAL LEARNING SYSTEM FOR THIS COURSE:

THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO:

  1. Use MSDOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) to format disks, arrange disk directories for files and programs, and perform disk file manipulation such as copying and deleting.

     

  2. Use a keyboard, cursor pointing device (puck), digitizer table and video graphics terminal to put drawing information into a computer.

     

  3. Operate the AutoCAD computer drafting system and use it to layout, edit, display, store, retrieve and plot engineering drawings, symbols, and symbol menus.

     

  4. Understand the basic terms, concepts, and techniques used in computer aided drafting.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS:

  1. There should be a series of lectures covering AutoCAD software, system overview, screen layout, basic drawing commands, MSDOS overview, command entry, plotting, saving, etc.
  2. Lecture: Drawing slopes, point entry, placing text, editing features, inquiry.
  3. Lecture: Dimensioning, layers, line types, creating and storing blocks, additional editing features and draw commands.

EVALUATION PROCESS:

The student's grade will be based on quizzes, mid-term exam, lab work, and final exam.
