Theatre Department to Hold Auditions for Children’s Production, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”
Posted: Sept. 16, 2010
The Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Theatre department is seeking actors for the fall season production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” Auditions will be on Monday, Sept. 20, and Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m. in the MHCC College Theatre on the Gresham Campus.
Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale, this adaptation is by award winning playwright Kathryn Shultz Miller. In this version, Peter, a young boy who loves to daydream, gets a dose of reality when his grandmother tells him that they are penniless and can’t even afford food. Peter sets out to the big city to find a job and win his fortune; he uses his creativity to convince the Emperor that he is a famous tailor who can weave fabulous clothing. “You see,” Peter says to the Emperor, “this wonderful cloth has the most extraordinary power. The cloth is invisible to anyone who is unfit for the office he holds.” The Emperor is delighted, giggling about all of the things he will learn from his wonderful new clothes! “Can you have them ready for the procession on Saturday?” asks the Emperor.
If selected, actors must enroll in TA153D: Theatre Workshop: Children’s Workshop, First Year or TA253D: Theatre Workshop: Children’s Theatre, Second Year. Enrollment for all MHCC courses is now available online at www.mhcc.edu/enroll. Fall classes start Sept. 20.
