It is with mixed emotion that the Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) District Board of Education announces that John. J. “Ski” Sygielski has accepted a position as president of Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC), located in Pennsylvania. Sygielski has served as president of MHCC since July 2008, and will continue in that role until June 30, 2011. He begins his presidency at HACC July 5, 2011.
During his three years as president of MHCC, Sygielski’s dynamic leadership has been the driving force behind significant advancements for the College. As an energetic and dedicated leader, his contributions are numerous and long-lasting and have laid the groundwork to keep MHCC, now entering its 45th year, moving forward as a leading community college in the state and region.
“The Board is grateful to Dr. Ski for his steadfast commitment to serving students. When we hired Dr. Ski in 2008 we gave him the direction to improve the College’s performance in three key areas: community engagement, MHCC enrollment from our district’s high schools and private support of the MHCC Foundation. He has clearly achieved all these objectives and many more, including a 2020 Campus Master Plan, innovative academic programs and growth in distance learning,” said Brian J. Freeman, MHCC Board Chair. Freeman notes Sygielski will remain fully-engaged and as president of MHCC until June 30, 2011. The Board is developing plans for a presidential search as well as plans for an interim president, as necessary. As the Board plans for a smooth and efficient transition of leadership, updates will be maintained on presidential transition at mhcc.edu.
