‘Springtime in Paris’
MHCC Foundation Auction and Dinner Raises Scholarships for MHCC Students
Posted: April 13, 2011
How can you experience Paris without stepping foot outside of Oregon? It’s simple – all you have to do is make your reservation or sponsor the Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Foundation’s auction and dinner, May 7, at the Portland Waterfront Marriott.
The theme is Springtime in Paris and we have a – shall we say – magnifique – Parissienne evening planned with great food, amazing auction items and the piece de resistance: entertainment by Julianne R. Johnson, acclaimed recording artist.
With a little bit of imagination, you will swear you were strolling along the Seine River while shopping for unique trips, art, gift packages, wine and one-of-a kind experiences – all in support of student scholarships at MHCC.
Auction items range from trips to France, Italy, Hawaii and Africa to artwork, gift baskets, handcrafted items, jewelry, wine and much more. There’s even a chicken coop complete with chickens and a (rented) goat and llama to clear your yard of wild blackberry bushes!
Event co-chairs Pat Fiedler and Kathy Toynbee, with help from the auction committee and dozens of MHCC Foundation volunteers, are working hard to put together a fun evening for a great cause.
“The Springtime in Paris auction and dinner is a wonderful event that not only raises money for student scholarships, but also showcases MHCC as a vital part of our community and deserving of our support,” says Fiedler.
When asked why Toynbee gives her time to planning the auction and dinner, she replies with a resounding, “It’s all about the scholarships! I so enjoy raising money to help students who otherwise would not be able to attend college. I am passionate about education and the critical role it plays in achieving life goals.”
One student who knows firsthand how scholarships can put life goals within reach is Onjalai Flake. Following graduation this summer from MHCC, this high-achieving young woman will study communications at George Fox University. She will be a speaker at the auction and dinner – and she has an amazing story to tell!
