Forum Looks at Single Payer Healthcare System
Is a single-payer healthcare system good for Oregon? That’s the focus of a political forum, Nov. 15, 3:10 – 4 p.m. at Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC), 26000 S.E. Stark St.
“A single payer system means that all Oregonians pay into a health fund that covers healthcare costs for all Oregonians,” explains Janet Campbell, MHCC political science instructor, who will moderate the forum.
Participants include Martin Donahue, M.D., and State Representative Matt Wand.
Donohoe is adjunct associate professor in the department of Community Health at Portland State University and a senior physician at Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Hospital. He serves on the Board of Advisors of Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) and was chief scientific advisor to Oregon PSR’s Campaign for Safe Food from 2003-2011.
Wand attended Mt. Hood Community College for two years, went on to earn degrees in political science and law and maintains a law practice in Gresham. He was elected to the State House of Representatives in 2010.
The forum will be held in the Bob Scott room, located inside the library.
Parking permits are required on the Gresham Campus and may be purchased for $3 at ticket kiosks located by the flagpoles and gym. MHCC is a tobacco-free campus.
