Posted: February 29, 2012

Music lovers are in for a real treat the second weekend in March when Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) hosts three orchestra events, all free and open to the public.

On March 9, MHCC and the student orchestra club (Collegium Musicum) will host a concert by Joseph Gold, world renowned virtuoso violinist. He will perform at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 507 West Powell Blvd. in Gresham. He will provide an overview of the music, technique and lore of the violin from the baroque era until the 21st century.

On March 10, Gold will offer a free master class at MHCC’s Gresham Campus, 26000 SE Stark St. Interested violinists and violists should contact Marshall Tuttle, MHCC orchestra director, at 503-491-7010, for times and room numbers.

Also, on March 9 and 10, MHCC will host the Northwest Orchestra Festival, an annual competition of 1,500 – 2,000 musicians from approximately 70 high schools in Oregon and Washington.

These events do not require a parking permit. MHCC is a tobacco-free campus.

Individuals requiring accommodations due to a disability should contact the MHCC Disability Services Office at 503-491-6923 or 503-491-7670 (TDD). Please call at least two weeks prior to the event to ensure availability.
