Pool Bubble

April showers bring May flowers, as well as the deconstruction of Mt. Hood Community College’s pool bubble. (See the time-lapse video below.)

You may have seen it, a white dome protruding from the trees on the south side of MHCC’s campus? The pool bubble or dome covers the 50-meter outdoor Olympic size pool in the winter months.

“The dome was part of an overall project to upgrade the pool to meet swim competition standards and to extend the events calendar,” says Richard Byers, director of facilities management. “Swim meets are now extended into the cooler parts of the year.”

The bubble provides cover from October when it is installed, which takes two-three weeks depending on weather, to April, when the sun finally comes out.

So come out and swim the night away during open recreation hours 7:15-9 p.m., Monday through Friday.
