MHCC’s Connection to the Olympic Games
Posted: August 9, 2012
A breath of air to the side, followed by a powerful stroke through the water as Michael Phelps, world famous Olympic swimmer, finishes another lap at Mt. Hood Community College’s (MHCC) Aquatic Center. The year? 2004.
MHCC has welcomed a few star athletes at its world class Aquatic Center. In 2004 Phelps and fellow Olympian Ryan Lochte paid a visit to MHCC after touring the U.S. to promote swimming programs. MHCC was their final stop and they showed off their talents by racing in the indoor pool to the cheers and screams of fans in the stands.
But our Olympic fame wouldn’t stop there; in 2009 Lochte again visited MHCC to teach a swim clinic at the Aquatic Center’s outdoor pool, including demonstrations, drills and tips.
We at MHCC say good luck to all those athletes competing in the 2012 London Olympics and look forward to more star athletes making their appearances on our campus.
