Summertime at the MHCC Aquatic Center
Posted: August 10, 2012
Mt. Hood Community College’s (MHCC) Aquatic Center provides numerous activities each summer, such as Dive-In Movies, camps and swimming meets.
Here’s a quick run-down for August:
The Metro Portland Summer Championships will be held Aug. 11 in the 50-meter pool. This large meet is held every summer and attracts up to 500 swimmers and their families.
On Aug. 18, the Portland Parks and Recreation City Championships will take place in the outdoor pool. Known for being a relaxed racing environment, swimmers range from 6-16 years old. Art tables, food and children’s games are provided for some much-needed fun in the sun.
“There is a lot of preparation we do before these big events,” says Donna Ryan, program coordinator for Aquatics. “The events are really fun for kids and their parents. Our lifeguards and staff work all day in the first aid tent to ensure everyone has a safe and great experience.”
The MHCC Aquatic Center will host summer camps and swim lessons throughout the remainder of summer, as well as the community favorite, Dive-In Movies, held every Friday. So suit up and come support swimmers of all ages and enjoy the MHCC Aquatic Center.
