A Joint release from MHCC and the Oregon Secretary of State:
MHCC and Secretary of State Partner on Investigation into Alleged Misuse of Funds

Posted: August 10, 2012

The Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) District Board of Education has requested the assistance of Kate Brown, Oregon Secretary of State, with an investigation into allegations regarding misuse of funds. This is part of an on-going action by MHCC.

"We are grateful for this partnership with the Secretary of State's Office," says Dave Shields, MHCC District board chair. "With their resources, we are aiming to work together to complete the investigation within the next two to three months.”

The college’s contracts with its unions prohibit the release of information during an ongoing investigation, and the Secretary of State’s Office has a policy of not commenting on investigations that are underway.

“Community colleges rely upon state funding to supplement student tuition and fees, so we take this matter very seriously,” said Secretary of State Kate Brown. "We will work with the college to pursue any misuse of public funds."
