MHCC Women’s Basketball Coach Expects Good Season from Young Team
Posted: December 14, 2012
Basketball season is starting to pick up once again for Mt. Hood Community College’s (MHCC) Saints, and they need support from their fans!
The Saints have a new team this year, with eight freshmen. “Usually, with a new team you have to learn to work with new attitudes and skills, but with these freshmen, they are all good, hard workers and that’s what we need in order to excel,” says Jocelyn McIntire, head women’s basketball coach.
McIntire expects the team’s standout players to be Kelsey Barnes (sophomore from Friday Harbor High School), Hannah Mocaby (sophomore from Sprague High School), Sydney Mendezona (freshman from Tualatin High School) and Whitney Warren (freshman from East Linn Christian Academy in Lebanon, Ore.).
Some new training techniques have been added this season, thanks to Tyler Rose, assistant coach. “We have a great advantage with our new conditioning drills and the knowledge that Tyler has brought to our team,” says McIntire.
The Saints compete in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC). Conference play will begin Jan. 5 with a game at Lane Community College. The first home conference game will be Jan. 9, 5:30 p.m., against Portland Community College. The schedule is available at mhcc.edu/athletics.
Come support the Saints, and while you’re at the game, purchase a $2 raffle ticket for a chance to win a round-trip ticket to Hawaii.
