Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) celebrated the graduation March 21 of 14 students from the Machine Tool Technology/CNC with Vocational ESL Career Pathways Certificate program. The event was held at the Gresham Civic Center, Council Chambers Building.

Karylinn Echols, Gresham City Council president, delivered the welcoming address, followed by keynote speaker, Stacy Breunig, administrator at International Association of Machinists/Boeing Joint Programs.

The graduating class is comprised of 12 men and two women from six countries: Cuba, Egypt, Mexico, Romania, Russia and Vietnam. Students learned manual machining – mill and lathe – as well as CNC (computer numerical control) machining – and experienced a 100 percent graduation rate.

"From last year's class, outcomes in terms of completion and employment were also excellent," notes Steven Storla, Career Pathways coordinator at MHCC. He says that 15 out of 16 students completed the certificate, 11 out of 12 became employed with an average wage of more than $13 per hour, and three are continuing their educations in pursuit of associate degrees.
