Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) welcomes all new students, transfer students and restarting students to its 10th annual New Student Orientation, Thursday, Sept. 19, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the gym.
This annual event is designed to inform, entertain and welcome new students to MHCC before the fall term begins Sept. 23. Students will get acquainted with the MHCC Gresham Campus, interact with current MHCC students and employees, learn about the various academic programs and support services, and enjoy a free lunch!
Following check-in at the gym (check-in begins at 8 a.m.), the day’s festivities will begin with a welcome and “Tips on What to Expect as a New Student at MHCC” led by the new college president, Dr. Debbie Derr.
Students will then have the opportunity to explore and learn by participating in campus tours, question and answer sessions, and/or attending the Get Connected Fair featuring academic programs, student support services and student organizations and clubs.
Family and friends are also invited to New Student Orientation. Representatives from Admissions, Career Planning & Counseling, Disability Services and Financial Aid will lead a special session on how to be an effective advocate for students in college. This session will also highlight resources and services available for family and friends.
The event will conclude with a free lunch for all attendees. Students will receive a flash drive, drawstring backpack and chance to win free tuition for winter term and other door prizes.
