Posted: October 29, 2014
The community is invited to attend a ribbon cutting and reception to honor the opening of the highly-anticipated Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Diversity Resource Center, hosted by Associated Student Government. The event will take place Nov. 6, noon -2 p.m., in the Student Union Lounge.
To honor this important addition to the MHCC Gresham Campus, guests will enjoy refreshments, live entertainment, a formal ribbon cutting and brief comments from:
- Dr. Debbie Derr, Mt. Hood Community College President
- Lori Stegmann, Gresham City Councilor
- Laura Aguon, Associated Student Government President
- Melinda C. Bullen, Diversity Resource Center Coordinator
- David Sussman, Student Union and Specialized Student Programs Manager
- Larry Dawkins, Long-time Faculty Member
“At MHCC, we view diversity in the broadest sense,” says Sussman. “To help ensure it is inclusive of all people and the rich backgrounds that they bring to our learning community, we see diversity extending to everyone and touching on all the things that make each of us unique.”
Bullen says the center is a work in progress that can serve as a meeting place, figuratively and literally; a space that serves the campus as a cultural learning library; a safe place for dialogue and a venue for events and workshops.
Parking is free on all MHCC campuses, no permit required. For more information about this event, please contact Melinda C. Bullen at 503- 491-7171 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
