MHCC Fireplace Gallery Presents Photo Exhibit
Posted: December 12, 2013
The Fireplace Gallery at Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) is hosting a free art exhibit by Mark Crummett, “Ghosts in the Machine,” Jan. 2 - 30.
Crummet’s photographs “play with scale, but at the same time, touch on deeper ideas of our relationships with technology, the world around us, with each other and with ourselves,” says the artist. He often distorts the scale, which makes figures appear bigger and produce a playful, dreamlike quality to his images.
“Sometimes, my working-class characters inhabit circuit boards and other technological/industrial environments,” he continues. “The images examine the ways that they interact with these environments and how they become part of them.”
The artist also says the characters in his photos sometimes jump and explore a common dream. Sometimes they fall, fly or appear to be taken up to alien spaceships, or further into their own dream worlds.
Wherever they are and whatever they may be doing, these tiny people inhabit a world that is almost, but not quite, like ours,” Crummett says.
The Fireplace Gallery is located in the Student Union on the Gresham Campus, 26000 S.E. Stark St. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Parking on all MHCC campuses is free, no permit required.
