Librarian Anna Johnson just loves working with students, and technically she’s, well, dating one. “I have to be careful with that one!” Johnson said, laughing. “My 34-year-old partner of seven years is taking classes here, I’m not just dating a student.” And yes, they do meet for romantic lunches in the Vista. Johnson recently went from part to full-time instructional coordinator in the library, meaning she teaches students how to do research and use the online library tools. “I love it, I feel connected with the rest of the school and with the students,” she said. She’s happy to be working full-time, because landing a full-time library position can be tough—at one point she was working part-time at 11 different libraries! Johnson grew up on Long Island and originally came to Oregon for a one-year West Coast excursion, just to see how the other half lives. She ended up falling in love with the place and returned at the first opportunity. “I was in a grocery store in Boston and saw one of those cans of Oregon blueberries with the black label and burst into tears,” she said, laughing. “That’s when I realized how much I missed it.” In her free time, Johnson enjoys photography, graphic design and writing. She recently wrote a chapter about using storytelling in library instructional classes for an upcoming book by the Association of College and Research Librarians. |
