H1N1 Flu Update

H1N1 Flu Update

Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) officials are monitoring the H1N1 virus (commonly referred to as swine flu).  Even though this virus does not pose the threat to life that public health officials originally feared, it is predicted that many individuals will contract this virus, especially during this year’s flu season.  If the virus begins to pose a threat to our College community, we will activate our Pandemic Influenza Preparedness and Response Plan.  The College community will be notified of plan activation through e-mail, class announcements and the College Web site.  In addition, during the months of October and November, the College and Multnomah County Health Department intend to dispense seasonal and H1N1 vaccines, as available. The MHCC Web site will list clinic dates and times as well as links to updated information regarding H1N1, the seasonal flu and a link to useful facts and other Web sites to visit.

Please see a healthcare provider if the following emergency warning signs occur:  difficulty breathing or chest pain, purple or blue discoloration of the lips, vomiting and inability to keep liquids down, signs of dehydration such as dizziness when standing, absence of urination, seizures, less responsiveness than normal or confusion.
Best wishes for a healthy and academically successful year ahead!
