Perceptions Publication Calls for Submissions

Artists, writers, photographers, videographers and musicians are invited to send in their original works for publication in the Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) literary publication “Perceptions.” Submissions are open to the public; no affiliation with MHCC is required.

“Perceptions” is a magazine of the arts that was first published in 1969. In recent years, the publication has expanded to include a CD and DVD for music, film or computer animation. Submissions will be accepted until Jan. 15, 2010.

All writing submissions may be entered as hard copy, e-mailed as attachments (word doc, docx, rtf), or included in the body of the e-mail. Fiction and creative non-fiction must be typed and double-spaced in an easily readable font. There is a three-story submission limit for both fiction and non-fiction. Poems should be submitted in exactly the format the poet wants them to appear on the page.  Poets may enter up to eight different pieces.

Only original songs will be accepted for music entries (no covers). Music may be submitted on a CD or e-mailed as an mpeg attachment. Film entries must also be original and submitted in digital format.  

Photographers and visual artists may submit either black and white or color work. Art may be submitted as hard copy or e-mailed as a jpeg file. Any size file is acceptable for judging and review purposes, but if your work is chosen for “Perceptions,” a file of at least 300 dpi will be necessary to ensure high print quality. Photography and visual art have a limit of eight entries per category.

All artists included in the compilation will receive one complimentary copy, and there will also be a $50 final prize in each genre.
