Child Development and family support services available for pregnant women
and families of children age birth - 5 to who are low income and reside in East
County outside Portland Public Schools. Services include Head Start, Early Head
Start, and Parents as Teachers Program and provides comprehensive preschool
program including health screenings, child and parent activities, transportation,
family style meals, opportunities to volunteer, and parent involvement activities.
Part day and full day services with some programs available year-round.
Early Head Start enrolls children who are birth to three and pregnant
moms in a variety of program options: EHS has a limited number of child care
slots available. Home based program involves weekly home visits to families,
socialization days, and a variety of parent groups offered in the Rockwood area.
Part Day/Year Head Start offers a combination of classroom time and
home visits for families of preschoolers (ages 3-5) in locations throughout
mid and east Multnomah county. Most families are eligible for bus transportation.
Full Day/Full Year Head Start provides child care for eligible families.
Hours and locations vary. Child care is available for working parents and student
parents (must be taking 9 credits or equivalent). $25 monthly co-pay per child,
hours between 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Mon - Fri.
Migrant Education Preschool/Head Start provides preschool and home visit
services for migrant eligible families. All services provided in Spanish.
Mt. Hood PAT (Parents as Teachers) provides monthly home visits and
weekly group experience for families with a child ages birth to five.
