College Placement Test

If you wish to register for six or more credits or register for a math, reading or writing course, you must take the College Placement Test (CPT) before you register. If you have not already taken the CPT, you will need to make arrangements to do so. This skills assessment is very important to ensure that you select classes based upon your current skill levels.

Many MHCC classes require that you have proficiency in reading, writing and/or mathematics. If you scored into or above the following classes, you are considered proficient in those areas and you may begin college-level studies.

  • Reading 115
  • Writing 115
  • Math 60

Please review you scores, using the chart on the next page as a guide. If you believe your scores do not accurately reflect your skill levels, you may retest one time. To retest, you will need to pay the $10 retest fee at the Cashiers Office in Student Services, Room 2253 for each test in which you are retesting. Please take your receipt to Testing Services Office, Room 2335.

If you placed into any of the following classes:

  • ABE
  • Reading 90
  • Writing 80 or Writing 90
  • Math 10 or Math 20

Please meet with an Academic Advisor to discuss course options prior to registering.
