Economics
What economics course should I take?
Depending on what your objectives are, the information below can be used to help you get started. If you are a student in a transfer program, you should definitely take the Principles of Economics sequence, EC201, EC202 and EC203. This is the basic sequence that is required at most universities as part of the requirements for an Economics or Business Administration four-year degree. At Mt. Hood Community College, as well as at the rest of the Oregon state colleges, the course numbers and course content are basically the same.
If you are taking the course as a portion of a professional technical program, you should probably take EC115 - Introduction to Economics. This one-term course, a basic overview of economics, will not satisfy the Principles of Economics requirement at the four-year colleges. It is not a prerequisite for the Principles of Economics course. If you plan to eventually transfer to a four-year college, you should discuss with your advisor whether EC201 or EC202 might be substituted for EC115.
If your interest is strictly personal, you will probably wish to take EC115 - Introduction to Economics. This course provides a brief overview of the science of economics and the economic way of thinking. Do not expect this course to directly assist you with personal finance or investing questions.
