Career Fairs are your opportunities to:

  • Meet and network with many recruiters
  • Gather information from employers from a broad spectrum of industries, including the non-profit and government sectors
  • Talk with recruiters about full-time career positions, part-time and seasonal jobs, and internships
  • Get interviews with the organizations you are interested in working for
  • Explore a variety of careers in a non-intimidating environment
  • Get clued into hiring procedures

Preparing for the Career Fair:

  • Begin preparing your resume several weeks before the Career Fair. Come to the Career Center for help with your resume, or attend one of our resume workshops.
  • Dress for Success - begin researching and shopping for your business suit several weeks before the Career Fair.
  • Research the organizations that appeal to you most.
  • Select 4 to 7 organizations as your target priorities. You may need to customize your resume to the positions offered by these organizations.
  • Acquire a business folder for your resumes. Keep a notebook in your folder for notes.

The Week of the Career Fair

  • To make a strong first impression with recruiters, prepare an "ad" of yourself. Your ad should introduce yourself, sell your strengths and skills, and some reasons why you are interested in working for the organization. Don't forget to mention internships and academic strengths. Be direct and smile.
  • Practice your "ad" with different friends.

The Day of the Career Fair

  • Be well groomed and dress professionally.
  • Have a plan. Map out your visits. Have your customized resumes ready for each of the organizations.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to make sure you cover all your targeted organizations.
  • Act your "ad." Ask recruiters for their business cards. Offer them your resume.
  • Be confident. Let the recruiters know that you are ready for that interview.
  • Have fun!
