What is The Health and Wellness Resource Center (HWRC)?

Got health needs? Looking for health insurance info? The Health and Wellness Resource Center is the place to go! The Center will help you locate resources related to health! It is designed to assist you to find the information you need with minimal assistance and is open Monday - Friday, any hours the College Center is open.

Will someone help me find the information I need?

The HWRC frequently has staff available. However, the Center is designed in a manner that will allow you to locate resources even if someone is not immediately available. Check it out!

How do I get started?

Resources for primary heath concerns and topics (e.g. medical care, insurance, immunizations, etc.) can be easily located by following the flow chart inside the room. We have Resource Information sheets which you are welcome to take with you. All information and literature is FREE!

Is a doctor or nurse available on campus that can see me if I’m sick or hurt?

MHCC does not provide direct health services. If you’re not sure if you need to see a medical provider, the “Student’s Self-Care Guide” is a software program on the Computer Resource Station available at the HWRC. A variety of common ailments (e.g., sore throat, headache, abdominal pain, etc.) typical to students are listed. The program will guide you through a decision tree to help you decide if you need to seek medical care. Resource Information sheets are available to help you find where to go for low or no-cost medical care in the surrounding community and other organizations.

What if I just need a Band-Aid?

Basic first aid supplies are available in the HWRC.

Do you have medical and dental insurance information?

Yes, we have a detailed list of medical and dental providers available who are listed on our “Medical and Dental” Resource Information sheets.” Brochures on various health insurance providers are available on the Information Rack just outside the Center. MHCC does not pay for the cost of health insurance for students.

I am researching a health topic for a class at MHCC. Can I get information at the HWRC?

Absolutely! The HWRC has a variety of pamphlets, brochures and resource sheets available for FREE. Quality health-related web sites and software is available at the Computer Resource Station as well as health newsletters.

I have a friend who I believe may have a drinking problem. Is there any information on alcohol abuse or other substance abuse?

Yes! We have guides and brochures as well as many links to websites that provide information on all forms of addiction. A 12-Step Support group meets weekly on campus for anyone who may have an addiction problem (days and time may vary each term). For more info, stop by or call 503-491-7125.

Can you really get free body fat percentage measurements at the HWRC?

Yes! Body fat percentage measurements are available at no charge. Please call 503-491-7125 or visit the HWRC to arrange an appointment.
