Bruning Center Orientation

General information:

  • The Bruning Center is a NO smoking facility. Students and faculty must be at least 200 feet from the building to smoke.
  • Food –Vending machines are on the first floor in the Commons Area.
  • Food and drinks are allowed in the Commons Area only. Bottled water only is allowed in the classrooms and on the 2nd floor
  • The building is wireless and students may want to bring their laptops to use when in class or when studying.
  • Enter through the main front door off of Civic Drive. Do not walk through the lobby of the CAL building to access our building.
  • Front doors are unlocked at 7:45 AM and locked at 8:30 pm by MHCC maintenance.
  • Emergency – Call 911 (Phone in the faculty break room.)
  • Fire – evacuation plans are posted at the entrance and exit to the building. In case of fire all persons must exit though the closest door and step away from the building and proceed to the far north parking lot.
  • There is no security person available on the Bruning Campus, please be cautious.

Student Information

  • Parking -- Students should use the northwest parking lot on 15th street and is the gravel area on the side of the building. Students must pay attention to the no parking signs on the North side of 15th street (the city will tow them). NO Parking in Gresham Station Mall. Students are encouraged to walk in groups to their cars when evening classes are over.

     

  • Building Entrance--Enter through the main doors off Civic. DO NOT enter through the Center for Advanced Learning (CAL) side doors and walk through their lobby to MHCC. Please remember the CAL is a high school and not to be used as a thoroughfare.
  • Copy machines are available on the 1st and 2nd floor. Students can purchase cards to use the copy machines on the 2nd floor from the machine adjacent to the copy machine. Students must have exact change. The card machine does not make change and change is not available from the office.
  • Noise can be a problem outside the classrooms so students are encouraged to wait for class on the fist floor in the commons area, or wait quietly in the study area on the 2nd floor.
  • The faculty have posted office hours. Office hours are available for students to meet with the faculty as the need arises. Please be respectful of faculty time, do not just drop in or interrupt them during non-posted office hours. Appointments can also be made at the individual faculty discretion.
  • Student mail files can be found on the first floor in the commons area. Materials and information being returned to the students will be placed ion the mail files. These files are confidential, you are not to look through or remove mail from any other students file.
