About this course
AHX 20 is a six credit course. The curriculum includes skills, knowledge, and abilities that have been identified as critical for career entry-level positions working as a Central Service Technician. The course includes lecture and lab components.

Note: This course is currently offered every other year. The next offering will be in 2010.

Central Service Technician Overview
Central Service Technicians process, store, and distribute medical and surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for operating rooms and other areas of hospitals and healthcare facilities. They understand and apply principles and methods of sterilization and infection control. This course prepares students for the National Certification Examination for Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician.

Prerequisites

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • College Placement Test (503-491-7678)
  • Immunizations: MMR and PPD within the last 12 months (TB test). Additional immunizations may be required by clinical site. Hepatitis B vaccine series and varicella immunity are recommended.

  • Able to stand for prolonged periods
  • Able to lift heavy instrument trays
  • Good verbal communication skills
