Season in Review
The 2006-07 season ended with the Saints competing in the NWAACC tournament for the 5th consecutive year and winning the first game in an exciting overtime thriller against the perennial power Big Bend Community College. The team was defeated in the next two games but continued to compete until the final buzzer sounded in the final overtime loss! The sophomores of this team are playing at 4 year programs that have each been very successful over the past several seasons. Arizona, Hawaii, Oregon are a few of the states that have players who compete at 4 year programs. When players leave MHCC and are able to compete at a high level, have their school paid for and take a fond memory of their experience at MT Hood, then the program is achieving success!
The season marked the end of a remarkable streak of 4 consecutive league championships, the Saints finished second, behind the eventual NWAACC champion. Competing and developing a style unlike previous teams coached by Coach Nielson, this team became a team that relied on precision and expertise, taking advantage of every possession to defeat teams. In the slow down attack, both coaches and players developed new perspectives on the game of basketball. Congratulations to the 2006-07 team, you continued the tradition of strong team unity and working together to compete at the highest level in the NWAACC.
