I teach writing and literature, including courses in Shakespeare, British, Hispanic, and World literature. I also teach Spanish.

I find fiction and poetry provocative because they show us the range and complexity of experience, behavior, and temperament. Literature gives us insight into ourselves and others.

But literature is also about language and expression. How the story is told is critical to the story. And literature admits of many disciplines--history, psychology, philosophy. I like that richness.

In my teaching, I involve my students in critical and lively exploration of the story, the language, and the historical and other contexts, so students learn the excitement of literature and its importance to their own lives.
