Being Black at MHCC: Staff members talk about campus life for minority students Barack Obama has paved the way for change by being elected the first black president of our country on Nov. 4. His victory is a symbol of changing times, and is a step toward a world where a person’s race takes a back seat to their abilities, according to several media outlets. The election of Obama proves “. . . that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights . . . Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” as stated in the Declaration of Independence. According to the NAACP, while today’s world is taking many steps in the direction of diversity and tolerance, life in our country and state has not always been fair for everyone. |

President begins shuffling administrative staff Larkin Franks has taken over as interim vice president for instruction and chief academic officer in place of Paul Hill and will serve as the main point of contact for the rest of the academic year and for the 2009-2010 academic year. The announcement came Tuesday in an all-staff strategic planning forum as MHCC president John Sygielski described organizational changes that will take place immediately and which are still in the planning stages.
