Program Costs


Integrated Media students should understand that they need to have access to computers with the same software we'll use during instruction in order to complete their work. While some parts of assignments can be done in class, significant out-of-class time is spent on homework. While having a computer connected to the Internet at home makes this much more convenient, those student who do not have access to a computer will need to plan on using the college's Open Computer Lab facilities each week to complete assignments.

All students should have headphones and a 1GB thumb/flash drive. 

Broadcasting and Video Equipment Requirements: Students accepted into the IM: Broadcasting or Video options will need to have access to Open or Semi-Open back headphones. Expect to pay between $80 - $150 for a professional-level model.

Digital Photography Camera Requirements: Student accepted into the IM: Digital Photography option will need to have access to an adjustable SLR digital camera. An example of an appropriate model is Canon's Digital Rebel XTi ($500 - $1,000 depending on lenses, source)

These costs are approximate, are subject to change without notice and are in addition to tuition.  They only represent costs for ONLY Integrated Media core and Option courses.

A complete supply list is presented during the first class of every term.

At the beginning of each term, many art supply stores in Portland have 20% off sales.

Many students invest in Macintosh computer equipment while at MHCC. A complete system including a scanner and printer can cost between $1,500 and $3,000. The major graphics and video applications: (Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design and Production Premium) Illustrator, Photoshop Extended, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Dreamweaver, Flash Pro, After Effects and Final Cut Pro) can be purchased at a significant savings while you are a student through the MHCC Bookstore throughAdobe's Student Licensing Program. Be prepared to show your MHCC student ID or other photo ID, bring your current term schedule and pay an additional $10 for the media. Ask for Susan Bates at the Customer Service counter in the Bookstore when you're ready to purchase.

Student discounts are also available for digital photography and video equipment.
