Volleyball Season Outlook
2007 Season Outlook
It will be an honor for the 2007 Mt. Hood
Community Women's volleyball team to try to match the accomplishments
of the 2006 team. The 2007 team has the privilege of continuing the history
of one of the most successful volleyball programs in the Northwest. In
the past 14 years, Mt. Hood has compiled 5 NWAACC championships, 3 second
place, 1 third place, 3 fifth place, and 2 seventh place finishes.

| With 5 returners, the desire to stay at
the top of their game is very apparent. Kim Carter, Chy Crichton, Ashley
Dyment, Lauren Murdoch, and Beth Perkins are our returners who were all
a big part of our success last season. We have added 6 newcomers including
two transfers, |
| Ali Walker and Malia Kamahoahoa. In addition,
we have 4 freshman from Southwest Washington: Tracie Garrison, BriAnne
Culbertson, Alicia Proctor, and Jessica Brunt. Together, we have a team
of 11 talented individuals who will be great ambassadors for the tradition
of Mt. Hood Community College. This team has been a delight to work with.
During our pre-season, they have continued to improve daily. They bring
a level of cometitiveness to practice that cannot be matched. It is great
to see atletes who understand that a group of talented individuals doesn't
necessarily mean a great team. As individuals they strive to make the
player next to them better and as a result, we will become a great team. |
In her sixth year as Mt. Hood's Head Coach, Chan, the current director of Athena Volleyball Academy, and former player at Baylor University , will expect rapid development. “In a two year institution, the composition of the team changes dramatically each year and as elite athletes, they will have to adapt quickly to our system and make immediate contributions.” "My coaching philosophy is this : we will develop mentally strong girls where the girls take initiative and responsibility on the court leading to a player led, not coach led, squad." Chan sees a team composed of players equally adept in multiple positions and skilled all around players. "My vision for Mt. Hood is a ball control oriented team whose success is predicated on dynamic movements to the ball. We will strive to build technically sound players who really understand the game of volleyball and be creative on the court within our system."
