Service-Learning Resources for Students
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which courses are Service-Learning courses?
Review our Service-Learning Courses page to see current offerings.
Where can I do my service?
There are many opportunities to perform service in our area. The kind of service you do will depend on the course learning objectives, your instructor’s preferences, your own interest and the availability of a particular placement. Check out the lists of Service-Learning Volunteer Sites for our current community partners. IF you wish to find an alternative site, please check with your instructor or Eric Juenemann, Career & Experiential Learning Specialist at 503-491-7323.
I'm already volunteering in the community. Would my current volunteer hours meet the requirements for my service-learning course?
Talk to your instructor about this at the very beginning of the term. This will depend largely on whether or not your current volunteer experience is a good match with your learning objectives in the course.
My instructor says I need to turn in the Service-Learning Agreement, where can I find the forms?
All of our forms can be found online on the Forms page. Be sure to check with your instructor for deadlines and any additional forms you may need for class. You may also find the forms on your course Portal page.
Can I continue my service after the term is over?
In most cases, yes! We strongly encourage you to continue your volunteer service after the term ends, as do our community partners. However, please be aware that some volunteer placements are intended to be short-term only.
Additional Volunteer Information
In addition to the partnerships MHCC has developed, there are other sites in the community looking for volunteers. Here are a couple of websites that list additional volunteer opportunities in the local area.
