Saints finish in 2nd at NWAACC Tourney

It was a great game, going nine innings, but the ending wasnt quite what the Saints were looking for. Sophomore Bryttny Kreshka hit a HR in the top of the seventh Sunday to tie the championship game at 3-3 and the Saints held the Lower Columbia Red Devils in the bottom to send the game into extra innings. The eighth was scoreless for both teams, but in the top of the ninth, Chaney Norbury singled, stole second and scored on Brittani Martins single. Kristin Anderson singled |

to score Martin and the Saints took a 5-3 lead. In the bottom of the ninth, the Saints got the first two outs, but with two out and the bases loaded, Lower Columbia hit a Grand Slam to end the game 7-5. It was the 3rd consecutive NWAACC Softball Championship for Lower Columbia.
Lower Columbia had bumped Mt. Hood into the losers bracket on Saturday afternoon with another 7-5 loss. Mt Hood came back and defeated Olympic 4-2 on Sunday to earn the right to challenge Lower Columbia again in the double elimination tournament.

Cox and Hadenfeld Receive All-American Honors

For the second time in four years, MHCCs Meadow McWhorter has been voted the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Coach by her NWAACC peers. McWhorter was selected in 2004 and again last night at the NWAACC Softball Banquet. The Banquet kicks off the NWAACC Softball Championship Tournament. Third Baseman Kathy Cox and Pitcher Lauren Hadenfeld were also selected as NFCA All-Americans in voting by the NWAACC coaches. Cox, a sophomore, and Hadenfeld, a frosh, received their trophies last night. Coach McWhorter will receive her award at the NFCA National Convention in Florida sometime in November.
Other honors for the Saints last night included 2nd Team All-Southern Region Brittany McArthur, Sarah McGregor, Tasha Maier and Ashley Lokey. First team selections were Lauren Hadenfeld, Kathy Cox, Chanie Norbury and Brittani Martin. Kathy Cox was also named the Southern Region MVP. |

The Saints will begin action in the NWAACC Championship Tournament today at Delta Park in Portland. Game time is 9:00 AM and the opponent will be Blue Mountain. The Saints will play again at 1:30 PM. Mt Hood Remains the Favorites in the Final Softball Poll - Top Six Unchanged

South Champion Mt Hood (26-4, 38-7) once again tops the softball poll, collecting all eight first place votes. The Saints began the season at number four, but ascended to the top in the second poll and have led since. East Champion Wenatchee Valley (23-5, 40-10) continues to hold at number two while the 2007 NWAACC Champions Lower Columbia (23-7, 39-8) stay just ahead of North Champion Bellevue, who remains in the fourth spot.
Walla Walla (22-6, 37-15) holds at fifth while Clackamas (17-13, 24-21) hangs on to the sixth position. Spokane (22-6, 30-14) and West Champion Pierce trade places in the seventh and eight spots.

Saints Clinch Southwestern Regional Regular Season Championship!

Coach Meadow McWhorters Saints swept Chemeketa on Friday to win the regular season Southwestern Region title for the second consecutive year. The first game of the doubleheader was never in doubt as the Saints scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 7-1 lead and blasted their way to a 16-1 victory, invoking the eight run rule after five innings of the scheduled seven inning game. The Storm from Chemeketa tightened up for the second game and the first seven innings ended with a 0-0 tie. |
| The Storm was three up and three down in the top of the eighth. Bottom of the eighth; Saints up. With one out, Kitty Kat Cox hit a single to right center. Another single by first baseman Ashley Lokey advanced Cox to second. A third consecutive single by Chanie Norbury loaded the bases and brought up Brittani Martin. With one out and a 2-1 count, Martin sent the ball over the left field fence for a walk-off grand slam home run to win the game 4-0, clinch the championship and secure the South Regions number one seed into the NWAACC tournament. Good at bat for your last home field trip to the plate as a Saint. |

5/10/08- In the last regular season double header, Cox turned up the heat. With just one home run shy of breaking the record, Cox belted two shots in the first game at Southern Region rival, Lower Columbia. The smashing did not stop there. Kitty Kat Cox continued her rampage at the plate with another bomb in the second game. The record now stands at 23 with the NWAACC championships in the horizon. The Saints head into action this Friday at 9:00am vs. Blue Mountain Community College at Delta Park. |
Mt. Hood Continues to Top Softball Poll

| The Mt. Hoods Saints (17-1, 29-4) continue to terrorize the South Region and haven't loss a game since Apr 1st, winning 22 straight games. The Saints picked up all eight first place votes and hold the top spot for the second consecutive poll while East Region leader Wenatchee Valley (18-4, 35-9) moves up from third to second this week. Lower Columbia (12-6, 28-7) and North Region leader Bellevue (24-2, 31-4) also move up a notch to round out the top four.
Walla Walla (17-5, 32-14) dips three spots to fifth following a bumpy ride at the NWAACC crossover tournament and a pair of road losses at Wenatchee Valley. Clackamas (10-10, 17-18) holds the sixth spot despite being the only team in the top eight with a sub .500 overall winning percentage. West leader Pierce (20-2, 28-10) and Spokane (17-5, 25-13) remain in the seven and eight positions in the poll.

The Mt. Hood Saints (11-1, 19-4) move up from fourth to the top of the rankings this week. The Saints have been dominating the perennially tough South Region and have had double header sweeps of fourth-ranked Lower Columbia and sixth-ranked Clackamas. East Region leader Walla Walla (15-3, 29-10) holds in the second position while East rival Wenatchee Valley (14-4, 28-8) follows in the third spot for the second straight week. Lower Columbia (5-5, 16-6) falls from the top spot to fourth this week.
Bellevue (14-0, 18-2) are red hot in the North Region and move up a spot to fifth. Clackamas (8-4, 12-11) drops a spot to sixth while West Region leader Pierce (13-1, 20-6) moves up from eighth to seventh. Chemeketa (6-6, 13-9) and Spokane (12-4, 18-10) tied for the eighth spot. View Poll

Walla Walla (7-1, 20-8) is off to a hot start in the East and comes in at number two followed closely by East rival Wenatchee Valley (6-2, 20-4) in the third spot. Mt. Hood (1-1, 9-4) rounds out the top four.
