Summary of President's "Listening Tour" Meetings
There are a number of reoccurring themes being expressed by those attending the Presidents Listening Tours. Following are some of the most frequently mentioned themes:
- Communication
- Improve all areas of communication / review, streamline and improve current college systems and processes
- Encourage college employees to participate in the community, especially in the areas of economic development and planning, with the employees then working to ensure the College is aware of and deals with the needs of the communities
- Develop internships / provide training to businesses on subjects like how to interview
- Changing demographics / workforce / job market
- Produce qualified employees to fill current openings
- Train / retrain / help with career planning
- Diversity
- Recruit diverse faculty and staff
- Enhance human resources efforts in attracting employees of color
- Facilitate cultural diversity training
- Rebuild trust and appreciation among all MHCC employees
- Be inclusive as we celebrate all the nationalities that our students and staff represent
- Develop mentoring opportunities for employees
- Provide orientation in Spanish for students
- Provide more signs in Spanish
- Provide a case manager for all students of color who may have difficulty with the language
- Advertise opportunities for Latino students
