Classes you can take in preparation for Mental Health and Human Service Program
There is always interest in classes a student can take while applying to the Mental Health and Human Service program or while waiting to officially enter the program. Here are some ideas for you!
Writing- You may take WR 115, WR121. The college is moving to 4 credit writing classes and we prefer you take WR 122 APA style for the MHHS program. WR 123 will no longer be required for students entering fall 2010.
Math - You may take Math 20, 60, and 65. But you may add 95 and 105 if you think you will transfer on to a four-year university.
Health - HE 202, HE 207 and HE 208 are all required for the program degree and you may take these.
HS 141 - Psychopharmacology of Psychoactive Substances is a core class taught in the winter quarter. You make take section 02 of this class. It is a pre-requisite to the Addictions Track classes which you may take also if you have had HS 141.
PSY 222 - Diagnosis and Treatment of Clinical Disorders is taught winter quarter. You may take section 02 of this class. It is part of the core requirement of the program.
HS 223 - Diagnosis and Treatment of Personality Disorders is taught spring term. You may take section 02 of this class. It is part of the core requirement of the program.
PSY 201 - This course is a great introduction to psychology and theories. It is NOT part of the program but if you are interested, a good class.
Language - You may work on a foreign language or sign language if you will be pursuing a four-year degree that requires a languagelike a Bachelor of Arts degree.
We encourage you to attend an information session for the program. You may access the schedule through this link http://www.mhcc.edu/pages/1656.asp
