Admission Requirements
CUESTE
(Curriculum Undergraduate Elementary School Teacher Education)
Students wishing to earn an elementary teaching license can complete the AAOT from MHCC and transfer to EOU to complete the teacher licensure program and a bachelors degree without traveling to EOUs main campus. The whole bachelors degree can be earned at the MHCC Gresham Campus. Student may also take many of their courses through distance education or at the outlining MHCC campuses. Work closely with our education advisor when choosing your program. Presently, programs in elementary education leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree is offered at MHCC through EOU on the MHCC Campus .The first two years of this program at MHCC lead to an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer (AAOT) degree. The last two years can be completed through Eastern Oregon University (EOU) on the MHCC Gresham campus through our CUESTE Program.
APPLY TWO TERMS IN ADVANCE, by March 15 prior to the Fall admission you desire.
- Are you within 100 hours of completion of all program and education requirements?
Print out the EOU-MHCC MUD Sheet and talk with an EOU advisor.
Students please select program which reflects your math level. Please talk with either an EOU or MHCC advisor about the courses. (Susie Smart sheets - Math 60 and Math 211)
- Are you enrolled in or have complete ED 200 with a grade of B or higher?
- Have you completed 30 hours of experience (minimum) with students in the age group you have chosen to teach (ED 209a Practicum)?
- Have you taken and passed the CBEST? Register at http://www.cbest.nesinc.com/
- Have you been admitted to Eastern Oregon University? Admission to EOU is not required prior to application to the Education Program (CUESTE). CUESTE Application packets may be picked up in Room AC 2786 or you may e-mail your request to sandy.sherman@eou.edu and must be received in Room AC 2786 by 5:00pm March 15.
Requirements for admission to CUESTE*: (are subject to change)
- A cover letter
- The Application Form
- CUESTE Program Planning Form
- Signed Verification of Grades Form (Need a 2.75 GPA)
- Unofficial copy of all transcripts
- Academic degree program major checklist (MUD Checklist)
- Academic minor or approved alternative (ESOL/Literacy Course of Study)
- A copy of CBEST score report
- Written statement about age-appropriate experience with children/adolescents 30 hour minimum)
- One letter of reference from the supervisor of the experience described in the preceding item.
- One general letter of recommendation attesting to your professional qualifications (Faculty Recommendation)
- Character Question form.

Glossary of Terms
- Authorization The age/grade level a student will teach after receiving an initial teaching license.
- Initial license The first level of teacher licensure, valid for a limited time. It is followed by continuing licensure, which requires further education;
- Post-Baccalaureate A person who holds a bachelors degree.
- Undergraduate A person who does not have a bachelors degree.
