CBEST Information

Q: What is the CBEST?
A: The CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) is a three part test of math, reading and writing skills.

Q: How long is the test?
A: You are allowed 4 hours on a Saturday morning to take the test. You may spend as long as you like on each part but remember if you spend all of your time on one section, you might not finish the test.

Q: What if I pass part of the test but not all of the test?
A: Those parts of the test that you pass, you do not have to repeat unless you choose to. Some students want to raise their scores on a particular section.

Q: Are there practice tests available?
A: Yes there are practice tests on the web at http://www.cbest.nesinc.com You may also register on this site and find out test dates. Test sites are not usually determined until about two weeks prior to the tests being administered because the locations are a result of the number of individuals wanting to take the test.

Q: How much does the test cost?
A: The test costs about $42.00. Another test which EOU accepts is the Praxis I (PPST) and that test is given at Sylvan Learning Centers, on computer and costs vary but are usually over $100.00.

Q: How often are the tests administered?
A: The tests are administered about every two months.

Q: How do I register?
A: All registration is done on the internet at http://www.cbest.nesinc.com
