College Seeking Budget Reduction Ideas
Letter from the President
Greetings, colleagues!
Due to the current economic challenges that are facing Oregon and the nation, it is understandable that many of you may be apprehensive about the security of your jobs. I want to assure you that although layoffs are not an impossibility, they will be a last resort, because YOU continue to be the College's most valuable resource.
As you are aware, Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) was recently informed by the State to reduce its operating budget by at least $600,000 for this fiscal year and will most likely be asked to do so again. Depending on the level of the mandated state budget cuts, MHCC will be forced to consider additional budget reduction options. However, the College is prudently waiting for official word from the Governor's Office before making any final determinations.
Although we will be called upon to do more with less as a total institution (again), I am committed to supporting all of you in your work. You are and will continue to be our most valuable resource in carrying out the mission of educating our students. Like you, I have experienced this situation several times throughout my career and am confident we will weather this challenge and emerge a stronger institution - TOGETHER!
As we face these budget challenges, please continue thinking of creative ways we may be able to generate additional income for the College (e.g., increase enrollment) and implement cost-saving measures to reduce unnecessary expenses. I hope you will share them with me by email at ourmhcc@mhcc.edu.
THANK YOU for your continued commitment to serving our students and communities!
