If you are seeking a job or wish to train for a new career, now is the best time to visit Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) WorkSource Portland Metro East located at 19421 SE Stark St. in Portland.

According to Kay Lopez, MHCC manager of workforce development at WorkSource, being without a job is a good time to re-evaluate and develop career goals.

We encourage our clients to look at what they can do today to achieve a job doing what they love in the future, Lopez said.

Clients come to WorkSource for a variety of reasons; it might be to rewrite a rsum, learn effective job interview techniques, upgrade current skills or train for a new career. No matter what is needed, WorkSource has the tools and services available to assist clients in re-entering the workforce.

Intangible but highly valued benefits to WorkSource clients include the camaraderie and hope that results from the services provided. Even though employment may take months to secure even with their newly acquired skills, clients are encouraged and motivated by caring staff members and by meeting others who share their struggles to stay focused on their job search and the next step in their career.

Victoria Alley, a WorkSource client, appreciates the job-hunting tips and the help she received with her rsum. Looking for a job today is completely different from what it was years ago, Alley said. WorkSource gives me access to all the latest techniques and advice to give me that extra edge.

Salomon Gonzalez gained new skills as a welder while learning English through a program offered by WorkSource. He knows these skills will offer him opportunities of "finding a good job with chances for advancement.
I felt so bad when I lost my job, Gonzalez said. Now I see it was an opportunity to make my life better.

WorkSource Portland Metro East services are free and include:
