How successful is the Transitions Program?

Nursing Student

Transitions has an excellent reputation among students, staff and community agencies. The program receives very positive evaluations from participants. Approximately 85% of participants enroll in college after completing Transitions. Approximately 50% complete a full year of college and report that they obtain better jobs because they have improved their self esteem and skills, including communication, computer, and teamwork skills. Approximately 20% go on to complete an associates degree and 10% go further to complete a bachelor’s degree or masters degree. Transitions completers have an average GPA (grade point average) of 3.11. This means their average performance is better than the average “traditional age”, degree-seeking student. Many Transitions completers also volunteer on campus and in the community and develop significant leadership skills. Transitions completers have won numerous awards and scholarships, including the 2002-2003 Outstanding Student Scholar Award and the Ford Opportunity Scholarship.
